What is Music Therapy?

Music therapy is a discipline in which Certified Music Therapists (MTAs) use music purposefully within therapeutic relationships to support development, health, and well-being. Music therapists use music safely and ethically to address human needs within cognitive, communicative, emotional, musical, physical, social, and spiritual domains.

Who can benefit from Music Therapy?

Music therapy can benefit individuals of all ages with various abilities, backgrounds and cultures, and is especially suitable for those who have:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder

  • Developmental delays or disabilities

  • Geriatric conditions such as:

    • Dementia

    • Alzheimer's

  • Palliative conditions

  • Speech and language impairments

  • Neurological conditions such as:

    • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

    • Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

    • Parkinson's

    • Stroke

    • Cerebral Palsy

Types of Interventions

Music therapists use a variety of active and receptive techniques to reach client goals. My techniques include:

  • Playing instruments

  • Improvisation

  • Movement with music

  • Listening

  • Lyric Analysis and Discussion

  • Songwriting

  • Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) techniques

Services Offered

Session length, location and frequency are dependent on the facility or client. Standard individual sessions are 45-60 minutes, book below or visit the programs page for updates on current programs being offered in the area.

Rates

Music therapy and counselling rates are set at $100/hr.

As I am under the direct supervision of a registered psychologist, services are covered under private insurance.
